Iran discovers huge iron ore, coal reserves

(Minews) - Deputy Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Mehdi Karbasian said two huge iron ore and coal reserves were discovered in Iran in the first half of current Iranian calendar year (started on March 21, 2014).

Karbasian, who is also, chairman of the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) underscored that a 200 million tons and 120 million tons of iron ore and coal reserves respectively have been discovered in Sangan mine in the eastern province of Khorasan Razavi.

He added that Sangan mine enjoys huge mineral resources.

Last year, Iran discovered huge reserves of high-quality Iron ore in the country’s central Lut Desert.

Iran ranks third in Asia and 11th in the world in terms of iron reserves.

Iran is among the 15 major mineral-rich countries and exports its industrial and mineral products to 159 countries, including Iraq, China, the United Arab Emirates, India and Afghanistan.
